Don R. Myklebust

Donald Myklebust(1944 - 2016) Donald Myklebust June 8, 1944 - May 17, 2016 Salem - Don died at home in Salem on May 17, 2016. Born in Washington DC, his parents Roy and Elizabeth were both government employees during WWII. He is survived by his wife Kay, his brother John (Judy) and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He transferred from Lincoln in his senior year. He graduated from Centralia High School in Washington, was a musician in Seattle, then joined the Navy in 1964. After surviving Vietnam and a year in the VA hospital he returned to his first love - airplanes. He had built model planes as a child, went on to learning to pilot and repair aircraft and finally became a certified flight instructor. It was during this time, while working at the Astoria Airport, that he met his wife Kay while giving her sister's boyfriend a flight lesson. Don and Kay married in 1974 and lived in California for 30 years. During that time he became an electronic technician, continued flight instruction and building and flying model airplanes. His childhood dream became a reality upon owning his own Tri-Pacer. Don and Kay moved to Salem in 2004 after their retirement. He became more interested in computers and the internet, making friends around the world in gaming platforms and virtual reality worlds. Kay thanks Willamette Valley Hospice for their continuous support during his illness. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made in his name to Southern Poverty Law Center, P.O. Box 548, Montgomery, AL 36101 or to Willamette Valley Hospice, 1015 3rd St. NW, Salem, OR 97304. There will be a memorial service at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 4 at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, 3295 Ladd Ave. NE. Assisting the family is Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service. Funeral Home Virgil T.
