Kirk lived two blocks south of me on Woodlawn. I remember some great times with Kirk and George at the Wallingford Playfield and Seattle Times Paper shack when we were about twelve. You could write a book on "Kirk" stories. So sorry to hear this news.

I too remember Kirk well. We attended school together from first grade, maybe even kindergarden, through our years at Lincoln. Most of the memories I have surround Kirk's ability as an athlete. In grade school it was often dodge ball and shooting baskets at low hung hoops for little kids. In junior high (Hamilton) we had no organized sports, so pick up games at Wallingford Playfied were the norm. These games usually included John Summers ('62), and his brothers Lyle and Dean, Bruce ('62) and Ken Bacon, Carl "Kelly" Plumb*('62), George Xenos*('62), Aldus Andrejevs* ('62), Dirk Vanderbrug, Doug Henning and Myself.  Kirk and his older brother Hugh were always at the top of the list when it came time to picking teams; didn't much matter what sport it was baseball or football. Those two were the athletes we aspired to be. I remember watching Kirk knock a baseball literally out of the park. Basically he hit the ball all the way from homeplate next to Wallingford Ave. N. over the fence that bordered Densmore Ave N. No idea how far that is, but it certainly eclipsed anything I could do with a bat. I have no idea where life's path took him after Lincoln, but I hope he and all our other classmates that have passed led fruitful and rewarding lives.

I regret that I do not remember one of the other commentors;  John L. (Jack) Lyons, who mentioned both Wallingford Playfield, and a Seattle Times newspaper shack.  I was the shack manager for the location just north of 45th St, on Corliss Ave N., where I worked with Fred Gerke, Rodney Kittleson, and Steve Branom* ('62). Perhaps Kirk and Jack worked out of a different shack.

* These classmates have also predeased all of us that may read this.

The Seattle Times paper shack I was referring to was originally in a garage in an alley off 40th between Ashworth and Interlake. Hugh Ellis had a Seattle Times route in that area. After eviction from that garage, the shack was moved to a garage I believe on either 37th or 38th between Ashworth and Interlake. I attended St.Benedicts in grade school, but knew many of the fellows you mentioned from the neighborhood and the Wallingford Boys Club.   It is hard to believe so many are gone.
