Obituary

Devoted mother and grandmother, selfless, caring and hardworking are just a few of the many words used to describe Judy Choate of Gresham.

Judy was born in Seattle, Washington on May 11, 1944 to Ray Ward and Cecile Martin. She was the eldest of four siblings, Kathy, Debbie, Leslie and Mary and they were raised in Washington. Judy was very close to her grandmother Nellie & after high school lived with her while she attended Peninsula college & later, the University of Washington where she earned an X-Ray technician certification. In 1966, Judy married Thomas Choate and together they had two children; Tamera and Renee.

Judy worked for Legacy Mt. Hood Medical Center in the medical records department. She loved her work environment and looked forward to participating in the Portland to Coast Walk Relay with her coworkers and daughter Tammy. Judy was an avid reader of mystery books; she also enjoyed watching mystery, history and travel television shows. Judy was no stranger to traveling as well; she's visited Scotland, France, Paris, Alaska, Mexico, New Orleans, Hawaii and made many trips to Seattle & California to visit relatives. Judy was social, intelligent and held a deep interest in art and history.

Judy passed on August 1, 2016 in Gresham. She was preceded in death by her mother; grandmother, Nellie; sisters, Kathy, Debbie, & Leslie. She is survived by her daughters, Tamera (Mark) and Renee; grandchildren, Madison, Cooper, Shanna, Brody, Devanie; sister, Mary; stepfather, Lloyd Carothers; and her cat Chongers. Judy will be deeply missed. A funeral service will be held on Weds, August 10th at 1:00pm at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home.

I remember so many fun times with Judy especially our camping trip to Millersylvania - 7 girls who knew nothing about camping!
