Beth Rosemary Clausen (Tennefoss)

Evans Funeral Chapel and On-site Crematory Beth Rosemary Clausen Tennefoss ( May 16, 1944 - February 21, 2021 ) Beth Rosemary Clausen Tennefoss, 76, of Anacortes, died peacefully at home on Sunday February 21, 2021. She was born in Bellingham, WA on May 16, 1944, the daughter of Aaron and Janet (Robinson) Clausen. Beth was born when her father, Aaron was in England, flying in B-17 airplanes as a machine gunner. He had her footprint to carry in his pocket when was flying, probably also on D-Day. She lived in Bellingham until she was in the third grade and then the family moved to Seattle. She lived in Seattle, Kirkland and finally in Anacortes for the last 22 years. She attended Shoreline High school and graduated from Lincoln Seattle in 1962. While in Seattle, Beth met the love of her life, Lee Tennefoss, on a blind date on Valentine’s Day in 1966. Beth’s cousin arranged the meeting to introduce his roommate to Beth. They started dating and enjoyed going to The Marine Room, then a night club at the Olympic Hotel. On one occasion after attending a concert by the Four Preps directed by Henry Mancini, they went to The Marine Room, only to find Henry Mancini and the Four Preps dining a couple of tables away from theirs. Beth took her concert program and went over to their table to request Henry Mancini’s autograph. She was asked to join them but she graciously declined. Getting the autograph was the highlight. Lee and Beth tied the knot on September 2, 1967 in Seattle. Beth's primary interests were gardening and sewing projects. She enjoyed growing flowers and vegetables in her greenhouse and raised flower beds. She was also passionate about sewing and was immersed in quilting, learning the various quilting skills on her own and by watching various sewing/quilting programs on TV and on YouTube. Beth’s interest in quilting was kindled several years ago, when she re-discovered some quilt squares made by her great aunt with embroidered 'Bonnet Girls'. She soon had many squares ready to make into a quilt. She usually used her quilt squares to make table runners, place mats and tote bags. She also made many items such as fleece caps, some with Seahawk colors and logos, and most of those were donated to homeless shelters, the Salvation Army and the Anacortes Family Center. Beth also loved dogs, the most recent was Buster, king of Pomeranians, a 14# 'attack' Pomeranian who was in fact a very loving lap dog and companion for traveling in the RV. RV travel was another favorite pastime for Beth and she and Lee would go on long and short trips to places like Birch Bay, Lake Pearrygin, San Diego, Tucson and other places … Tucson was a favorite where they would go to the annual gem and mineral show and most likely came back with beads. rocks, slabs for making cabochons, already cut and polished stones such as turquoise and Labradorite and others to support their hobbies of making beaded jewelry, cutting stones and making cabochons and silversmithing pendants, rings and necklaces. Lee did the lapidary and silversmithing but frequently Beth would design the projects for Lee to make. Her earlier sewing skills were excellent as indicated when she was gifted with some very nice wool fabric to make a suit for herself that turned out looking professionally tailored. In fact, she once was called for jury duty (which she took very seriously) she wore the wool suit she made. She came home disappointed that she was challenged and dropped from the jury on a serious case. She did not realize that when she went to be on the jury she looked like an attorney or a CPA, in the suit she wore. Afterward she dressed down and was eventually selected for a jury panel. When her daughter Robin was in school much of her clothing was made by Beth until Robin was in Jr High School and 'mom made' clothing just did not work anymore. The loss of Robin was devastating to both Beth and Lee as parents do not usually outlive their children. On January 11, 2000 approximately 10:01 AM Beth and Lee welcomed their 'digital baby' granddaughter Lauren Elizabeth Lantzy whose time and date of birth may be noted as 10:01 A.M. 01-11-00 with all zeros and ones. Lauren’s visits to Gma and Gpa were very fun times with jaunts to the Tommy Thompson Trail, Tugboat Park, the Beach and camping trips to Birch Bay. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her daughter, Robin Leslie Tennefoss Lantzy. She is survived by her husband Bjarne Leroy (Lee) Tennefoss; granddaughter, Lauren Elizabeth Lantzy, and son-in-law Bill Lantzy. Memorials may be made to: S.P.O.T., Saving Pets One at a Time, Burlington WA and or the Anacortes Family Center.
