RIP Fred, You were

Heaven got a nice guy. You were in my thoughts a couple days ago. I saw your picture in our annual and wondered where you were and what you were doing. This was really bad news.
Bless you and Rest In Peace my friend

Fred and I started kindergarden together at Interlake, and went through Hamilton and Lincoln before we took different paths. To this day I remember him as being the most forthright guy I knew at Interlake. Fred was full of his fair share of mischief, but was never shy about accepting blame.  When a teacher would ask "who did this" if Fred (never knew him as Jay, nor did his imediate family call him Jay) was the culprit he had no issue with saying "I did it". I have not seen Fred since high school but I tried. In early 1971 his mother contacted me through my mother. I was at NavSta Long Beach on TDY status and Fred was living in the LA area. His mother shared with me that he had been in a motorcycle accident and lost a leg. I dropped by his place several times, left notes, tried to call, all to no avail. One suspects that he wanted to divorce himself from social interaction as he was suffering his own personal loss. Sad, when you need people the most you draw into yourself.

Five '62 guys grew up in the Corliss/Bagley Ave area around 45th St. Rodney Kittleson, Carl "Kelly" Plumb, Fred, Doug Henning, and myself. Three are gone, but not the fond memories. Now it is just Doug and I. Rest in peace Fred, thanks for the memories...

Side note: As of the latest "In Memory" notifications, 161 of the 608 Lincoln '62 grads have past on. Sadly the number will go higher, faster. Live your lives to the best and fullest possible.
